Sony’s State of Play for Summer Games Fest 2026 came in with a clear message: PlayStation is back on its home turf. After a turbulent stretch marked by costly bets on live-service games and a round of hardware price hikes that stung fans worldwide, the hour-ish showcase leaned hard into what the PlayStation brand has always done best — big, cinematic, single-player experiences. Black Girl Gamers gathered to watch it all go down, and from the jump, the energy in the Discord said this was going to be a good one.
The show kicked off with over seven minutes of gameplay from Marvel’s Wolverine, Insomniac Games‘ upcoming superhero title slated for September 15. Logan, voiced by Liam McIntyre, carved through enemies with the kind of visceral, bloody combat fans would expect, briefly teaming up with Jean Grey (Krizia Bajos) along the way.
Insomniac has built a reputation on excellent single-player adventures, including Ratchet & Clank, Spyro the Dragon (who also made an appearance during Summer Games Fest!), and Marvel’s Resistance, Spider-Man, and Sunset Overdrive — and Wolverine looks to be, unsurprisingly, cut from the same cloth.

The show closed with its biggest swing: God of War Laufey, the next mainline entry in the series from Santa Monica Studio. The 23-minute trailer was extensive, giving a real look at what’s coming in the third installation of the franchise starring Kratos’ wife Faye, whose death sets the new saga in motion. We were deeply entertained watching the trailer and did not hold back for Faye’s debut as a mainline character, played by True Blood’s Deborah Ann Woll!
The God of War fans in the chat clocked all of the hallmarks necessary for a proper introduction: weighty combat, a mythological world to explore, and companions that bring personality to the journey. This time around, Faye travels with a gelatinous cube, voiced by Jack Quaid, and sentient ribbons attached to her sword. It’s a lot, and it works.
No release date, but if in par with PlayStation’s typical “coming soon, wishlist now” cadence, we may be looking at early 2027, especially to give Wolverine time to shine.

Sandwiched between those two major anchors was a showcase full of titles that kept the single-player momentum going. Control Resonant, the sequel to Remedy Entertainment‘s critically beloved Control, drops September 24. This time, Dylan Faden, imprisoned for much of the original game, steps into the lead role as sole playable character, while his sister Jesse, the first game’s protagonist, still shapes the story from the margins. It’s a smart pivot that expands the world without abandoning what made it special.
Also landing September 24 is Silent Hill: Townfall, the latest entry in Konami’s long-running horror franchise. The following day, on September 25, Capcom brings Onimusha: Way of the Sword with a demo featuring roughly 30 minutes of early story content available now if you want a taste of the supernatural sword-fighting before launch. Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve rounds out the fall with an October 1 release.
Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, the reboot from Crystal Dynamics and co-developer Flying Wild Hog, was also confirmed to launch Feb. 12, 2027. Among the standouts that got BGGs talking: the Black man from Dave the Diver is getting a prequel. Bancho the Chef, from MINTROCKET,focuses on Bancho, the intense, larger-than-life chef from the original game, who tells the story of how he learned his craft and found his purpose.. No release window yet, but it’s in development for PS5.

Until Dawn 2 also made an appearance, and it’s doing something interesting with its rollout formula. Set to launch in 2027, the sequel is a standalone experience with an entirely new cast, featuring a rag-tag crew of ghost hunters arriving at an abandoned tropical island for the debut episode of their TV network-funded show. Our Community reviews were mixed in reception, but the overall message to our handful of horror-loving members: we’ll watch ya’ll play it.
A few other titles worth flagging for the BGG Community: Kemuri: Hunt the Unseenis a paranormal action game set in a sprawling vertical city, playable solo or in online co-op with up to two others, coming to PS5 in 2027. The Lost Wild: True Fear Is Primalis also slated for 2027. Rayman Legends Retold, a full 3D reimagining of the 2013 platformer with new content, voiced characters, and an expanded soundtrack, launches October 1. Phantom Blade Zero hits October 29.Dune: Awakening, the survival game already out on Steam, is coming to PS5 on September 22, with an all-new single-player mode included. And first-person action horror ILL was shown without a release date, but what was shown was enough to put it on the radar.
On the PlayStation Plus front, RuneScape: Dragonwilds, available on Steam, is coming to PS5 as a day-one Game Catalog title for Plus members. Premium subscribers also have a trio of classic titles on the way: Gitaroo Man later this month, Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy in July, and Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams in August.
Marathon Season 2, titled Nightfall, was also shown—and in a gesture toward the community, gamers were able to pl June 2 through June 9th.
The show also featured Marathon Season 2, titled Nightfall; Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, a 2D fighter that looks like the perfect showcase for Sony’s new fight stick; and Dynasty Warriors 3 and Dynasty Warriors 3: Xtreme Legends, both arriving on PS5 on October 1.
All together, the State of Play had something to say—and largely said it well. The BGG Watch Party caught all of it! The deeper insights are going to stay in the Discord chat, but isn’t that the best reason to join us for the next one?
