Summer Games Fest, hosted in Los Angeles and livestreamed on YouTube on June 5, was the industry breathing life into the future of video gaming all at once. Hosted by Geoff Keighley, the three-hour livestream was dense, fast-moving, and packed with the kind of announcements that had BGGs typing in all caps in our Discord Watch Party before the trailers even finished. From long-awaited revivals to genuinely shocking reveals, SGF delivered—and the watch party had a lot to say about it. We also had BGGs doing on-the-ground journalism live in LA, so be sure to check out our on-the-ground coverage of the jam-packed event!
The show opened with Resident Evil Veronica, a full remake of Resident Evil CODE: Veronica, one of the most requested remakes in the franchise’s history. It’s been heavily rumored for years, and seeing it made official with a 2027 target was the kind of confirmation that the horror-loving BGGs were into immediately. While the terrifying trailer may have had fans believe the series was taking a foray into first-person, Capcom has confirmed the new title will be in its classic third-person perspective.
Final Fantasy 7 Revelation was another major reveal that has us all gooped and gagged!
The third and final chapter in Square Enix’s beloved trilogy, the conclusion to the Remake project that began in 2020 as a re-imagining of the classic 1997 RPG, followed by last year’s Rebirth. It’s coming Spring 2027 simultaneously on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. During the showcase, director Naoki Hamaguchi took the stage alongside voice actor Matthew Mercer, who voices Vincent Valentine, to introduce new gameplay features, including Highwind in action, Cloud skydiving, Vincent’s and Cid’s combat styles.
The day-one multi-platform release is a notable move—the previous entries launched on PlayStation first—and it signals Square Enix casting the widest possible net for the finale.

Let’s just say it, shall we? We can all agree that SGF had one of the most genuinely surprising moments of the showcase season so far.
RGG Studio, the otherworldly minds behind the Yakuza and Like a Dragon series, brought a new trailer for Stranger Than Heaven, and confirmed that Tupac Shakur, yes Pac, will feature in the game. Obviously, the late hip-hop icon passed away in 1996, the scary accurate likeness is a licensed deal with his estate, confirmed by the other very alive and in-person surprise guest and new game character: Snoop Dogg.
The chat was mixed on the Tupac reveal, given the questionable nature of using a deceased person for profit (especially at the corner of late-stage capitalism, AI personas taking over our internet, and the rise of digital Blackface). And we can’t ignore Snoop’s questionable political alignments in recent years. Some say, this could be good for the culture, while others leaned more toward “let that man rest in peace.” We’re keeping our eyes close to this rollout nonetheless—the game is slated for January 15.

Sidebar: Snoop did tease a Death Row Games label may be on the way sooner than we think, with more announcements in the near future. What type of games would you like to see under a Death Row Games label? We shared a few ideas in our chat, and let’s just say: the girlies are creative!
The long-awaited development update for PlatinumGames’ Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin, and the reveal of the 2027 release date of The Wolf Among Us 2, coming behind a remastered version of its predecessor later this year, received many screams from us.
Street Fighter 6 revealed its Year 4 DLC lineup, and the headliner is Tifa Lockhart from Final Fantasy VII, joining alongside three original characters: Yasmine, Arjun, and Bosch. Tifa crossing over into SF6 is the kind of dream crossover that makes sense on paper and still somehow feels surreal when actualized.

Innersloth announced Among Us Story: On Guard, a standalone single-player narrative game set in the Among Us universe, coming to PC and Nintendo Switch 2. And in a bonus move, the Among Us animated series, announced on stage during SFG by voice actors Yvette Nicole Brown and Liv Hewson, shadow-dropped on Paramount+ the same day.
BGG members, look out for the playdays and marathon watch parties on the calendar because the excitement was unanimous!

While there there soo many other notable titles to chat about including and not limited to Saw: Genesis (coming soon to Early Access on Steam), Guild Wars 3, RuneScape: Dragonwilds (full launch from Early Access on Sept. 15), Palworld 1.0 (July 10 release from Early Access), Hot Wheels Infinite Rush (Sept. 24), An Eggstremely Hard Game (full release July 24, demo available now), and Wiz Khalifa (looking good!) as Hitman: World of Assassination‘s next Elusive Target (demo available now), the fun was really in watching with the BGG Community. Getting out our first thoughts on the reveals, coordinating our Steam wishlists together, and scheduling co-op playdates is what our Community runs on.
Summer Game Fest always swings for volume, but this year it managed a ridiculous volume of titles and weighty announcements, while holding nostalgia remakes and sequels with excitement for all things new at the same time. We are satisfied! Next year, same time, same place, yes? Great!
