Welcome to Gamerscope, our new monthly series where we read the sky, reflect on the month ahead, and suggest a stack of games that meet the moment. Think of it as a cosmic save point: a place to pause, check your map, and decide where you’re headed next.

August didn’t ease in quietly (as if it ever does). The month opened behind a full moon in Aquarius, sitting just two degrees from Pluto—the planet of the depths, the shadows, and the stuff we’d rather leave in the basement of ourselves—and a Jupiter cazimi* in Leo, when the planet of abundance and growth became player 2 with the Sun. The energy is potent: Pluto asks, “What’s been lurking in the shadows that needs to be expressed?” While Jupiter in Leo answers, “Whatever it is, don’t make it small; think BIG!”

Leo energy is all about leadership, creative self-expression, and stepping into your spotlight at full force. So in August, plant your creative seeds for 2027.

And just as importantly: taking note of fears and insecurities that come up when you imagine being seen for your fullest self, in-game and IRL. We don’t have to banish those feels. Get curious, honor their lessons, and allow them to become tools properly equipped for your next level.

Below are the astrological transits that’ll pass through August. Use these to assess your daily situations at home, at work, and at play. Consider your birth chart placements (especially your Big 5* if you know it) and how these transits will personally affect your day-to-day interactions, both internally and externally.

August 6 — Mercury leaves its shadow*. Mercury has been retrograde-adjacent since late June, stationing direct on July 23 and finally clearing its shadow. Translation: the communication fog lifts. Conversations that stalled, projects that glitched, messages that got lost in the void: this is your green light to move forward with clarity.

August 12 — Solar eclipse in Leo. Eclipses are the sky’s fast-travel system: they collapse timelines and drop you somewhere new. So a solar eclipse is like a supercharged new moon, and in Leo, it’s asking us to commit to that creative seed you’ve been contemplating. What does it look like to stand in your spotlight as your fullest self, just for you? Let’s find out!

August 17 — Mars in Cancer squares Neptune retrograde in Aries. This one can feel like swinging a sword through a thick fog; motivation gets murky, and trust that it’ll be real easy to act on feeling rather than fact.

August 17 — Venus in Libra sextiles Jupiter in Leo. While Mars and Neptune stir that fog, Venus and Jupiter are softening its edges with warmth, generosity, and connection. Warning: Your people are much closer than the fog suggests. (Probably in a Discord channel, just saying).

August 22 — Sun and Mercury conjoin the south node*. The south node just moved into Leo in late July for the first time in about 19 years, so the past being reviewed is specifically focused on the old ways you’ve sought the spotlight, or shrunk from it. With both the Sun and Mercury lighting up that darkened corner, don’t be surprised if the past comes knocking: an old coping mechanism resurfacing, a doubt you thought you’d outgrown, maybe even a familiar face sliding into the DMs. This isn’t a setback; it’s a reflection. A review log at the end of a match, if you will. Take notice of what isn’t fitting into your plans for the future, thank it for the download, and choose accordingly.

August 28 — Lunar eclipse in Pisces. Pisces energy is an ocean of dreams, intuition, and release, so of course the lunar eclipse here arrives like a deep exhale you didn’t know you were holding. Whatever you’ve been gripping that doesn’t offer any additional level-ups in your next phase, this is the time to let it go.

August 31 — Jupiter in Leo trines Saturn retrograde in Aries. The month closes with growth and structure teaming up. Where Jupiter dreams big, Saturn builds dreams to last. Together they say: your creative vision is real, and it’s sturdy enough to build on; trust your vision. (Venus also slips into her pre-retrograde shadow on this day, but more on that in October’s Gamerscope, when we’ll have a retrograde and cazimi coupling to unpack.)

From now until the end of December, our assignment is simple: take the project seriously. Not someday, not after the next patch drops—now. Tend to what you’re building and who you’re becoming with real care and precision, because that work is the key to the next evolution and how your people will recognize you. The thing you make when you’re most yourself becomes the beacon that draws your Community in and sparks the collaborations that’ll carry you through this year and into the next. Lock in

Next up is the Gamerscope Forecast! Pro Tip: Read both your sun and rising sign to get a clearer idea of how these transits will affect your everyday interactions versus the broader themes shaping the timeline. For instance, if you’re a Capricorn sun with a Gemini rising, it would be helpful to read both Earth and Air forecasts.

Water (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces): The lunar eclipse in Pisces is speaking directly to you. Your intuition is loud this month, so trust it, especially around the Mars-Neptune fog; while everyone else is guessing, you will simply know. Release is your superpower right now. Remember, what you drop from your pack will make room for what you’ll need to pick up. Trust that it’ll appear once the space is there to be filled.

For the dreamers, games that have curiosity built into the mechanics will keep your intrigue on the edge of your seat: L.A. Noire, Disco Elysium, Rise of the Obra Dinn, No Man’s Sky, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Fire (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius): This is your season, and everyone, including the planets, knows it. Between the Leo eclipse and Jupiter’s late-month trine to Saturn, you’re being handed both the spotlight and the blueprint. The only thing that can dim your light this month is your own hesitation. Stay cool. Start the thing. Embody the thing.

For you fiery bunch, games in which the main character is bold and daring is what will keep your flame ignited: Bayonetta, Halo, The Last of Us 2, Tomb Raider, and Lost Records

Be a firestarter. @polarbearrs

Earth (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn): All this eclipse energy bubbling might feel like someone shook your carefully organized inventory. Breathe. Your gift this month is turning big, universe-aligned ideas into actionable next steps. When the Aug. 22 south node conjunction stirs up old patterns, lean on the skills you’re best equipped with, and quietly, steadily swap those patterns out for better systems.

For the grounded collective, games with strategy and inventory management become second nature: Civilization, Stellaris, Astroneer, Resident Evil 4, Death Standing

Air (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius): Mercury clearing its shadow this month hands you back your greatest weapon: your words. Use them on purpose: pitch the stream collab, post the game announcement, send the “So I’ve been thinking…” message you’ve been drafting in your head for weeks. Venus in Libra is working overtime for your connections mid-month, which means conversations started now have staying power.

The gift of the gab is your supercharged this month, so games that involve the art of persuasion and relationship building will inspire you to use your voice and charisma: Baldur’s Gate 3, Hitman, Elder Scrolls, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Fable, Miitopia

Next month we’ll discuss the Neptune, Saturn, AND Chiron retrograde, all in Aries. Is it getting hot in here, or are we stepping into the heat of our greatest runtime yet? Stay tuned.

Glossary

*Big 5: your Sun, Moon, rising (ascendant), Mercury, and Venus placements, the core five that shape your identity, your inner world, your first impressions, how you communicate, and how you love.

*Cazimi: an old astrological term meaning “in the heart of the Sun” for when a planet sits at the exact same degree as the Sun; its energy is considered purified and supercharged rather than burned away. A cosmic power-up, basically.

*North node: the point in your chart that marks where you’re headed rather than where you’ve been. It asks for new skills, new risks, and a version of you that doesn’t exist yet.

*Shadow: the zone a planet passes through just before and after its retrograde. Retrograde themes can linger until the planet fully clears it.

*South node: the point in your chart tied to what’s familiar—old habits, inherited patterns, the comfort zone you default to. It’s what you’re meant to release, not repeat.
